I once stayed at a wonderful Hyatt hotel in the USA that had a secret floor! The doors of the elevator opened at your floor ONLY if you had a key card that showed you were one of the highly privileged. This secret floor was part of the special “Club” that you can be part of while staying at many Hyatt hotels the world over. The room was out of this world and the bathroom had some kind of massive “jungle shower” which replicated a rainforest. I can’t tell you what the Bill was next day … I think I’m still paying it off!
The top hotels in America are definitely something to write home about! Another favourite of mine is the Gaylord Palms in Orlando. As you enter Reception you are faced with a veritable jungle ahead of you. The whole of the “Atrium” is one massive rainforest with crocodiles, a lake and amazing foliage. If you venture through the jungle over small wooden bridges and winding paths, you see beautiful flowers and waterfalls. There’s also a complete beach with full size yacht which is one of the many restaurants in the hotel. The sight of that indoor yacht as you round a foliage filled corner is one you never forget.
While in New York a few years ago, I was lucky enough to stay at the Carlyle Hotel near Central Park. I can honestly say walking into the enormous room was a “moving experience”. The luxury, service and unforgettable food in the “Café Carlyle” lives with me to this day. Just need to win the lottery before booking another weekend!
